Classic

Features

The main oziTarget application has the features competition balloon pilots need when planning and executing a flight — evolved over many years of competition flying.

Core features

Some of these features are in OziExplorer but slow to access; others are not available in any other tool. They put the data and tools you need a single keystroke away.

Data fields

All of your critical data displayed in one compact vertical strip that can be customised to fit your needs. Fields can be turned on or off, re-ordered, and set up with custom font sizes and colours — a big improvement on the standard OziExplorer display. Key tools are also available directly from the main window.

Ground elevation & balloon AGL

Show the ground elevation and your height above ground, and use elevation data when picking goals and other features. Requires the trial of OziExplorer 3D installed with the correct DEM files loaded.

Drop angle

Calculates the marker drop angle when using a clinometer for high marker drops, with a full guide on how it works and how to use it.

Heading hold tool

Quickly note your current heading for drawing on the map at a useful position, or enter a bearing manually. Particularly handy for plotting a surface wind when approaching a target.

Transit point

Calculates and draws an arc showing the closest point to your current goal based on your current track. Redraw it as you fly to confirm changes are improving your result, and to check minimum and maximum distances are not infringed.

Flight report

Manually record key times and locations during the flight to make debriefing faster. Push Log Point to store the time, altitude, position and goal you were navigating to — then jump straight back to any point on the map afterwards.

Tools & extensions

New features and extensions are always in development. These tools are included in the core application.

Task Rings

Draw minimum and maximum distances with ease.

Waypoint Tools

Create, edit and manage the waypoints you need for a task.

Multiple Targets

Track multiple targets at the same time to better understand your options.

Windreader

Enter windreader data for drawing on your map.

Windreader Import

Import windreader data from standard formats.

Flight Winds

Record and draw the winds as you fly.

Altitude Sim

Simulated altitude data for testing and training at home.

Scoring Areas

Draw scoring areas or highlight grid lines as required by the task data.

ProPack

Subscribers

ProPack subscribers get exclusive extra features. Some are built into the main app and turned on in settings; others are extensions / plugins added in the Tools menu, and may be updated on their own cycle without updating the main app.

Live Tracking

Send and receive live pilot positions in the air over an internet connection. A separate subscription, available as a plugin and in the main app.

Wind Path

Built into the windreader page, quickly visualise the path of the pibal at any point on the map and at any climb rate.

History

Click near your flight track to view altitude, speed and direction at that point, and step forwards and backwards along the track. Redraw the track in full colour by altitude.

ProPack Task Rings

Select multiple waypoints for each task — a big help when setting up Hesitation Waltz tasks.

ProPack Waypoint Tool

A refreshed waypoint tool with streamlined Move buttons and selectable move distances, plus a Paint tool for quickly resizing and colouring waypoints.

Map Link Tool

Click the map to generate a Google or Apple Maps link to the clipboard, ready to paste into a messaging app — or open it for turn-by-turn navigation.

Descent Prediction

Show the expected path of your balloon in a descent at a selected rate, based on your stored flight wind data. Lock in or clear predictions when training to check accuracy.

2D/3D Scoring

Calculate your result distance based on your altitude relative to the separation layer.

3D Star

Calculate your result distance based on your altitude relative to a 3D star task.
