Windows protected your PC…

← Back to Help

Chrome or Edge won't let you download oziTarget, or Windows blocks it from running? In a world of dangerous software they're just trying to be helpful. Here's why it happens and how to get around the road blocks.

Why it happens

Windows and browsers prefer software signed with a code-signing certificate, which vouches for the legitimacy of the software and ensures it isn't altered on the way to you. Since June 2022 all oziTarget downloads are signed — but a certificate takes time to build reputation and be trusted, so you may still see warnings. Antivirus and firewall software may also chime in; dealing with those is outside the scope here.

Downloading in Chrome

Chrome may not accept the download button, so right-click the download link and choose Save link as…. You'll get a “can't be downloaded securely” warning — click the up arrow to get the option to keep the file. Then read the Windows section below.

Downloading in Edge

The download button works in Edge, but there are hoops. After downloading you'll see a blocked / “this will harm your device” message — click the three dots to keep the file, then Show more to reveal the Keep anyway option.

“Windows protected your PC”

When you run oziTarget_setup_vXXX.exe, Microsoft Defender may warn that it prevented an unrecognised app from running. Click More info, then Run anyway, and you should be good to go.
