Frequently asked questions
Quick answers on maps, licensing, and getting started. Still stuck? Check Help → FAQ & Tips inside the app, or get in touch.
Do I need a new account?
Yes — any legacy purchases are not linked to oziTarget Map. You create a new account inside the app (Help → Sign in / Register).
The original oziTarget used an offline registration process: after purchase you received a licence file or code for that PC, with no sign-in and no link between your email and what you owned on a server.
oziTarget Map works differently for security and licensing. You sign in so purchases and subscriptions are tied to your account, not a loose file on disk. That means your Standard licence and ProPack can follow you across machines, plan status can be checked and refreshed online, and a lost or copied registration file is no longer the only proof of ownership.
What is oziTarget Map?
oziTarget Map is a Windows desktop moving-map app for balloon pilots. It is built around offline MBTiles charts with waypoints, tracks, live GPS, playback, a simulator, Windreader wind tools, and navigation readouts — designed so you spend less time on the screen and more time reading the sky.
I already use Ozi Explorer. Can I bring my maps over?
Yes. You can import Ozi Explorer .map calibration metadata and control points, reuse the same raster image, and keep your .wpt waypoints and .plt tracks.
The one change is the live map format: oziTarget Map does not open Ozi's paired image+.map as the moving map. You build (or receive) an .mbtiles file and open that. See the Maps page for the full migration workflow.
Do I need GDAL?
Only if you build your own MBTiles from a raster chart — and even then you do not install GDAL yourself. The optional Map Tools package includes the GDAL tools oziTarget Map needs; the app prompts you to download Map Tools the first time you convert an Ozi map or open Map Calibration. If someone gives you a finished .mbtiles, you can open and fly it without Map Tools.
Which installer do I download — x64 or ARM64?
Open Windows Settings → System → About and read System type. "x64-based processor" means use the x64 installer (most Intel/AMD machines). "ARM-based processor" (e.g. Snapdragon X Elite) means use the ARM64 installer.
Is there a free trial?
Yes — a 14-day trial of the full product, including every ProPack tool and Live Tracking. Sign in or register from the app (Help → Sign in / Register, or the welcome dialog on first launch) to start it. When the trial ends, the app reverts to whatever plan your account holds.
What is the difference between Standard and ProPack?
Standard is a lifetime licence covering maps, calibration, waypoints, tracks, live GPS, Windreader, and the simulator — everything most pilots use day to day.
ProPack is a timed subscription that adds competition and crew tools: Task Data (WatchMeFly), Live Tracking, playback and history debrief, Open-Meteo wind import, and scoring/geometry tools. When ProPack lapses, your Standard features stay on your account.
I just purchased the original oziTarget — do I get a discount?
All purchases of the original oziTarget after January 2026 will be eligible for a discount on an oziTarget Map Standard licence. Exactly how this works and how much the discount will be is still being finalised — check the licensing page or get in touch.
See licensing details →I currently have a ProPack subscription for the original oziTarget
Existing oziTarget ProPack subscribers can use the balance of their subscription with both the original oziTarget and oziTarget Map. When you buy your Standard oziTarget Map licence, we manually activate ProPack on your account until your existing subscription expires — email us if it doesn't appear (it's a manual step, so allow for timezones and delays).
Note: ProPack subscriptions purchased for oziTarget Map cannot be activated in the original oziTarget.
See licensing details →Can I use the app offline?
Yes. MBTiles charts are fully offline, and after a successful sign-in your plan is cached on your PC. Lifetime Standard keeps working from cache when offline. Timed plans (trial or ProPack) honour the last known plan for up to 14 days without contacting the server, then fall back to Standard until you reconnect. Online basemaps, forecast winds, and Live Tracking need internet.
Can I cancel or get a refund?
Yes — if you need to cancel or request a refund, contact us and we can process it where appropriate. Because payment processors charge non-refundable fees on every transaction, an administration fee applies to cover those costs, so the amount returned is less that fee.
To avoid surprises, please confirm the system requirements before you buy, and use the in-app 14-day trial first if you are unsure about compatibility.
