oziTarget

Overview

Moving from OE / OT

oziTarget Map is built to feel familiar to Ozi Explorer and oziTarget users — and most of your existing data comes straight across.

File formats

oziTarget Map reads and writes the Ozi Explorer formats you already use. Because it adds so many new features, it also has its own native file formats — these won't be recognised by other software (yet!), so when you need to share with a non-OTM user or go back to Ozi Explorer, save in the Ozi formats.

Ozi waypoints & tracks

oziTarget Map reads and writes the Ozi Explorer waypoint (.wpt) and track (.plt) formats. If you need to go back to Ozi Explorer or share with someone who isn't on oziTarget Map, save your data as Ozi .wpt or .plt.

IGC flight logs

Balloon Live

Import the Balloon Live IGC files — the marks and declaration data are extracted for you. Perfect for reviewing a flight without re-entering everything by hand.

KML / KMZ & GPX

Google Earth

KML, KMZ, and GPX files can also be imported. Need a specific format that isn't here yet? Let us know — we can usually add it.

Map formats

oziTarget Map uses the MBTiles format, which is common to other mapping software. So you may find charts already made for those systems work in oziTarget Map — and a map you build here may be useful elsewhere too.

You can't import an Ozi Explorer map directly as the live moving map, but an OE .map file can start the calibration process — its control points and metadata import into the calibration window, then you build the MBTiles.

What comes across

  • Waypoints & tracks (Ozi .wpt / .plt, both directions)
  • IGC marks & declaration data
  • KML / KMZ & GPX files
  • OE .map control points to seed calibration
  • ! OE maps are not opened directly as the live map — build MBTiles first

Keeping your work organised

Two file types replace the folders of bits and pieces you used to track.

Project files

.otmp

Save a base map with its waypoints and tracks for an area or competition. Set it up once and load it before the flight for a clean slate. Embed the full map for a single portable file, or link to the map to keep the file small.

Flight files

.otflight

Everything you do during a flight is saved automatically, so you never lose data if the PC shuts down — the last flight reloads on restart. Save it with a name at the end to keep the record; loading a clean project clears the previous flight.
